Controller and contact

Giulio Bramante, an individual based in Italy operating the independent project Dev News Corner, is the data controller for devnewscorner.com.

For privacy questions or requests concerning your personal data, contact privacy@devnewscorner.com.

This notice covers visiting the blog, contacting us by email and subscribing to Dev News Corner Weekly. The public website does not offer visitor accounts, comments or a contact form. Subscribing to the newsletter is not required to read the blog.

Website delivery and security

Our hosting and security providers process technical information needed to serve and protect the website. This can include IP addresses, request times, requested resources, browser information and security-related records.

The website is hosted with WP Engine on a server in the United States. Cloudflare security functions have been observed as part of the website’s delivery infrastructure. We use necessary operational processing to pursue our legitimate interests in keeping the website available, maintaining it and preventing abuse.

WP Engine documents a 30-day retention period for website backup checkpoints. This does not establish the retention period for every internal access, error or security log, or a deletion deadline for every technical copy. The actual internal log-retention periods and any additional backup-retention criteria are still being clarified with the provider.

Analytics and cookie preferences

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the blog. Analytics is configured to load after you accept the Analytics category in our cookie banner. Optional Analytics processing is based on your consent.

Google Signals and advertising personalization are not enabled. We do not currently deploy Google AdSense advertising code or Google Ads tracking on the blog.

Our GA4 retention settings are 2 months for event data and 14 months for user data. Reset on new activity is enabled, so subsequent activity can restart the user-data retention period. These settings do not define the lifetime of Analytics cookies or the retention of every aggregated report.

Cookie preferences are managed using GDPR Cookie Compliance by Moove Agency. You can reopen the preferences panel using the Cookie Settings link in the website footer. Further details, including observed cookies and the behaviour following withdrawal, are in our Cookie Policy.

Dev News Corner Weekly

The newsletter provides a weekly selection of developer news, AI updates and practical guides, with occasional clearly labelled affiliate recommendations. We use your email address to send it only if you subscribe. The legal basis is your consent. Providing an email address is necessary to receive the newsletter; subscribing is voluntary and is not required to read the blog.

We use Mailrelay to provide the signup form, manage subscriptions and deliver emails. Processing includes your email address, subscription and confirmation information, subscription status, technical submission information, and delivery, bounce and unsubscribe events needed to operate the service.

The form uses double opt-in. After submission, the contact remains inactive until the recipient follows the confirmation link. Only then is the subscription activated in the newsletter group. An unconfirmed request is not an active newsletter subscription, but its address and associated technical records can still be held by the service. We have not established a fixed automatic deletion period for unconfirmed requests or their logs. You can contact us about an unconfirmed request or request deletion of the associated data, subject to any necessary and lawful retention.

Where the signup form is displayed, it is embedded from devnewscorner.ipzmarketing.com and loads resources from assets.ipzmarketing.com. These connections begin when the page loads, before you complete or submit the form. The providers consequently receive technical request information, such as your IP address and browser information. The form’s technical operation and protection serve our legitimate interests in providing a functioning subscription process and preventing automated abuse; this does not replace any consent required for optional tracking or non-essential browser storage.

The form uses a honeypot field and Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent automated submissions. reCAPTCHA resources also load when the embedded form loads, rather than only after submission. Additional requests are made when you interact with the challenge. Technical browser, device and interaction information is processed for this protection. The observed reCAPTCHA resources are loaded by the hosted form. More about the observed browser behaviour is in our Cookie Policy.

Newsletter measurement and withdrawal

Open and click tracking are disabled for the newsletter campaigns currently prepared through our Mailrelay integration. We do not ask subscribers to agree to individual engagement tracking in the signup form. Any future change to measurement will be assessed and explained before it is introduced, with consent obtained where required.

Disabling engagement tracking does not eliminate delivery, bounce, security, confirmation, consent or unsubscribe records. It also does not prevent requests for remotely hosted email images, including our logo. Verification of campaign settings does not establish that every automated confirmation message uses identical settings. A working tokenised unsubscribe link identifies the relevant subscription action; its presence alone is not evidence that ordinary reading links are tracked. Accepting website Analytics does not itself provide consent to newsletter engagement tracking.

You can withdraw newsletter consent using the unsubscribe link or by contacting us. A completed unsubscribe action changes the contact to a disabled status used to prevent further newsletter campaigns; it does not automatically erase the record. We retain the minimum information needed to respect the opt-out. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.

Retention practices

We have adopted the following criteria for information under our control:

  • Active subscriptions: we retain the information needed to provide the newsletter while the subscription remains active and the service is offered. We review the continuing need for these records annually.
  • Unsubscribed or blocked addresses: we retain records needed to respect the opt-out and, where necessary, demonstrate consent or handle a dispute. We review continued necessity annually. We do not treat unsubscribe status as permission to send a new campaign.
  • Ordinary correspondence: we review messages monthly and remove correspondence that is no longer needed once 12 months have passed since the request was closed, at the next monthly review.
  • Privacy requests, consent evidence and disputes: relevant records are assessed separately from ordinary correspondence. Retention depends on the need to document the request and response, establish compliance or handle a specific claim or obligation; the continuing need is reviewed annually.

These are manual review practices, not a statement that all providers or backups automatically erase records on those dates. Mailrelay’s published Data Processing Agreement, Annex A section 3.4 provides for processing during the service contract and deletion one year after termination, subject to legal retention, with earlier deletion or return available on request. That contract-end provision is not a 30-day deletion rule for pending subscriptions or a specific retention limit for delivery logs. The agreement applicable to our account and the operational deletion arrangements are still being confirmed. Internal hosting-log retention also remains under clarification. Local exports or downloaded copies, if created, must also be included in our retention reviews.

Email correspondence

If you email us, we process your address, the message and information you choose to provide to respond to your request. Our mailbox is operated through Namecheap Private Email. This processing serves our legitimate interest in answering correspondence and managing the blog; privacy-rights requests may also be processed to meet legal obligations. Please avoid sending sensitive information unnecessary for your request.

Service providers and international processing

The services involved are:

Provider or servicePurpose
WP Engine and its infrastructure providers, including Cloudflare functionsWebsite hosting, delivery, backups and security
Google Analytics 4Optional website analytics
MailrelayEmbedded signup form, subscription management and newsletter delivery
Google reCAPTCHAProtection of the signup form against automated submissions
Namecheap Private EmailMailbox operation and correspondence

The use of these services can involve processing outside the European Economic Area. In particular, the website’s hosting server is in the United States. WP Engine’s published Data Privacy Addendum describes safeguards for restricted transfers, including EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the alternatives specified there. The governing agreement for the account and the applicable provider-specific transfer arrangements are still being checked; we do not claim that all processing takes place in the EU.

You can request information about recipients and applicable transfer safeguards, including how to obtain relevant safeguards, by contacting privacy@devnewscorner.com. Mailrelay publishes processor and international-transfer provisions in its terms and DPA; account-specific applicability remains to be confirmed. Additional provider information is available from Mailrelay, Google’s business data information and Namecheap. The reCAPTCHA service loaded by the hosted form can involve Google processing and is not covered by a claim that all newsletter-related processing stays in the EEA. These provider notices supplement this notice; they do not replace our responsibility to explain processing for the blog and newsletter.

Affiliate links and external websites

Where used, affiliate links are identified as such. Following one can allow the destination provider or affiliate network to process information about your visit or attribute a referral. Their own notices apply to their processing. We do not provide our newsletter subscriber list to affiliate partners for their own marketing. The presence of a link does not mean that the partner receives your newsletter email address from us.

Your rights

Subject to the conditions in applicable law, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time. Contact privacy@devnewscorner.com to exercise these rights; we may request information reasonably needed to verify and handle your request.

You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, including the Italian Garante per la protezione dei dati personali. We respond within the time limits provided by applicable data-protection law.

Updates

We update this notice when our processing changes or further provider information becomes available. The date above identifies the published version. If a new activity requires consent, that consent must be obtained before the activity is carried out.
